Area Schools Show Support For Beloved Teacher

The disappearance of Sherry Arnold, the Sidney math teacher who went missing on Jan. 7 has devastated the communities in the area surrounding Sidney, but hasn’t changed the community spirit of helping your neighbor.

Schools that normally are competing against each other in sports events are showing their support to the Sidney Public Schools and the Arnold family.

Students from all Fairview Schools went to Sidney High School last Friday morning to take orders for coffee for the teachers and staff. They then went to The Rush coffee kiosk in Sidney to fill and deliver orders. The surprise had recipients overwhelmed with the generous gesture.

“I want to give a big thank you to the Fairview Schools and community for thinking of all of us at the Sidney High School by coming in and taking orders for a drink from The Rush for them,” said Lynette Hoon, Sidney High School. “We (all the staff at the school) are very grateful for your support. Again thank you.”

Also on Friday, Fairview Schools’ teachers and staff donated their proceeds from the regular “Denim Friday”. They were asked to add a dollar to regular dollar normally given to wear jeans to school for charity on Fridays.

Students at Fairview Schools held a “Wear your hat to school day”, on Monday, for the Sherry Arnold Fund. Students wore hats all day to school and were able to donate a dollar or more to show their support.

Culbertson students were looking for ways to be helpful on the Monday following Mrs. Arnold’s disappearance.

Monday, Jan. 9, at the JV basketball games, the students had a 50/50 drawing and a no-bake bake sale. The 50/50 drawing winner donated the winnings to the fund.

Students also made donation jars with Sherry’s picture on them and placed them around the community to collect donations. Culbertson students K-12 also held a “Wear your hat to school day”.

A website has been set up to donate to the cause of finding Sherry to help with expenses of the family, continuing search efforts, funding food for volunteers, any other need of the family. Anyone wishing to donate can go to http://www.giveforward.com/letsbringsherryhome. The fundraising site will operate until Feb. 10. All proceeds will go to benefit the Arnold family.
