Several Sidney residents turned out last Thursday for a Neighborhood Watch informational meeting held at the Community Services Building, Sidney.
The purpose of the meeting was to outline a Neighborhood Watch Program and what it would take to get the program started in Sidney.
A Neighborhood Watch Program is a crime prevention program that stresses education and common sense and empowers citizens to become active in community efforts through participation in neighborhood watch groups.
“We actually had people from each area of Sidney who are going to take information to their neighbors to see if they are interested.” said Idelle Badt, Richland-McCone County RSVP director.
One resident volunteered to set up a Face Book page for the watch. Another who has been here only three weeks was enthusiastic about the watch starting. He said he had been a captain for his Neighborhood Watch program in his last residence.
“We plan to try to have neighborhood block parties in the spring,” said Badt, “As a way of getting to know neighbors not just for policing.”
Badt said they have plans to set a meeting time with Sidney Assistant Chief of Police Robert Burnison to organize the official Neighborhood Watch.
There was also discussion of organizing a personal safety class.
