MSU Ag Appreciation Weekend Oct. 28-29

Montana State University’s College of Agriculture and Montana Agricultural Experiment Station will host its 13th annual Agriculture Appreciation Weekend on Oct. 28-29.

Friday’s activities will include an agricultural economics outlook conference in the morning, an Ag Fair in the afternoon, hot topic presentations and the announcement of the Outstanding Ag Leaders Friday evening. The conference will be held in the Procrastinator Theatre of the Strand Union Building. The Ag Fair will be held in the SUB ballrooms.

Among the speakers will be Michael Gerber, Farmer Mac president and CEO, and Trent Loos, Nebraska radio personality. Loos will speak at 2 p.m. Friday in the SUB Ballrooms. He will discuss the value of involvement in today’s food production system. Gerber will give the M.L. Wilson Lecture at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the Procrastinator Theatre.

The MSU Ag Fair will include interactive booths that show several aspects of Montana agriculture from crop pests to animal disease prevention to bees. Several of Montana’s agricultural associations will demonstrate the impact of agriculture in Montana.

MSU ag officials note that agriculture is the number one industry in Montana, generating over $3.5 billion annually. Agriculture is also one of the founding disciplines of MSU as Montana’s land-grant institution.
