ROI’s Silent Art Auction For Recycling Truck Campaign Set For Saturday

Richland Opportunities, Inc (ROI) is pleased to host a Silent Art Auction at the MonDak Heritage Center on Oct. 15 from 7-9 p.m. The proceeds of this auction will be used toward a new recycling truck. Cindy Eleson, ROI’s executive director stated, “ROI is very excited for this event and the community has been very gracious in their response to donating art and other items for the auction. There is a great need for a new truck. This past week, our current cardboard truck would not start and now needs an estimated $2,000 of work to keep it going. The new truck cannot come soon enough!”

The evening will begin at 7 p.m. on Saturday Oct. 15 and is free to the public. Eleson reported that the evening is not only intended to raise funds for the truck, but as a social event to meet new people in the community as well as to visit with existing friends. The silent bidding process presents an opportunity to socialize with others.

Tammy Linder, Synneva Meldahl and Katrina Meldahl, pianists, will provide background music for the event. Kent “The Maverick” Simonis will rally the crowd on bidding and ROI board members will act as hosts.

ROI’s raffle drawing will be held during the art auction and tickets are still available through ROI. Another component of the evening will be a drawing for the centerpieces made by individuals served by ROI. The centerpieces will be laden with confections with a donation of $10 to participate in this drawing.

Artists have donated over 100 pieces of artwork for this event and the variety of artwork is phenomenal. Artists are welcome to donate through Oct. 14. Some of the artwork has come from unexpected sources. Two signed Eunice Hundley prints were given to ROI anonymously. ROI contacted Ms. Hundley regarding the use of these prints at the art auction. She responded that the prints were created as illustrations for a book titled “Naya Nuki” by Ken Thomasma and requested that ROI contact the author for his permission. Thomasma granted the use of the prints and sent a signed book to accompany the illustrations. The illustrations and the book can be viewed at http://www.roisidney.org, along with the other artwork. Early bids will be accepted for any works of art by calling ROI, 488-3341, extension 4. All art connoisseurs, who are recyclers at heart, are invited to this social event on Oct. 15.
