Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks invites hunters, landowners, outfitters and others to get involved now to help set hunting seasons for 2012 and 2013.
The public can comment online and at a series of statewide open houses set for Monday, Aug. 29 at most FWP regional offices.
The 7-9 p.m. open house meetings will include a brief overview of the season setting process, and the public can stop by any time during the open house to visit with FWP biologists and game wardens.
The meetings will be held at the the Valley County Courthouse, 501 Court Square, Glasgow, and FWP Region 7 headquarters, 352 I-94 Business Loop, Miles City.
“We’re especially looking for good discussions about any hunting regulation changes folks would like FWP to consider,” said Quentin Kujala, FWP’s wildlife management section chief, Helena. “We’re also hoping to learn more about what hunters are experiencing afield and what they don’t want to see changed in the future.”
The deadline to submit comments is Sept. 6. To submit comments online, go to fwp.mt.gov and click on For Hunters and follow links to the Hunting Homepage.
Proposals that emerge for the 2012 and 2013 hunting seasons will be presented to the FWP Commission in December, followed by public comment opportunity in January 2012. The Commission will adopt final rules in February.
