The McKenzie County Fair “Summer Days & Country Ways” is scheduled for Thursday-Sunday, July 14-16 at the McKenzie County Fairgrounds, Watford City.
The fair opens Thursday, July 14 at 9 a.m. with the 4-H Swine Show followed by the 4-H Goat Show at 9:30 a.m., the Sheep Show at 9:45 a.m., the Beef Breeding Show at 10:15 a.m. and the Market Beef Show at 10:45 a.m.
Curly’s Funtastic Kid Zone opens at 11 a.m. all three days of the fair.
A new addition to the fair will include a carnival opening all three days at noon.
Matt Sorensen, Blackfoot, ID, will allow you to experience the unusual and rare art talent of his paintings with spray paint. He will paint any request and also sell posters and murals all day during the fair. He has been painting since he was 16 years old and paints portraits, landscapes, cars, planets…anything. He will be painting at 12:30 p.m., 5 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday and at noon, 2:30 p.m., 5 p.m., 7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Ice cream in a bag will be served at 3 p.m. followed by the parade down Main Street at 4 p.m. A free barbecue will be held at the fairgrounds at 5:30 p.m.
Registration for the Olaf Leiseth, Jr. Memorial Draft Horse Competition begins at 6 p.m. with the competition starting at 7 p.m. at the Rodeo Arena.
On Friday and Saturday, the KIDDYUP Goat Roping will be at 11:30 a.m. behind the Livestock Show Arena.
The 4-H Awards presentation will take place at the Livestock Show Arena.
There will be face painting at 1 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
The famous 4-H Livestock Sale is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the Livestock Show Arena.
Registration for the Demolition Derby opens at the north entrance to the fairgrounds at 2 p.m. and ends at 5 p.m. The derby will be held in the rodeo arena at 6 p.m.
You won’t want to miss the Candy Drop, sponsored by McKenzie Electric and the McKenzie County Fair Board at 3 p.m. Tortillas in a Bag will be served at 3:30 p.m.
The Pinewood Derby Car Races registration begins at 3:30 p.m. with the races being held at 4:30 p.m.
Saturday’s events begin at 8:30 a.m. with registration for the Great County Fair Mud Run to benefit Amy’s Room at the new Healthy Hearts Wellness Center. The Mud Run begins at 9 a.m.
Also at 9 a.m. the Youth Rodeo will be held in the Multi-purpose Building.
There will be a Raised Garden Tour at 12:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
A NDRA Rodeo Slack, which is an overflow of contestants that do not fit into the rodeo performance, will be held.
Mini Pullers LLP will entertain at 1 p.m. They are a family-owned and operated pedal tractor pulling company based in northeast North Dakota and offer all the equipment necessary to produce a fun event. The vehicles will accommodate children from four years old to adults. Digger is the smallest tractor and is designed for children as young as four. Orange Peeler was created for children from six to seven years old. Dirt Slinger is a very unique pedal truck that is used by children ages 8-10. Twister handles youth from 11-13.Cardiac Arrest is the biggest baddest pedal tractor built for teens through adults. Small Sled is used with Digger and Orange Peeler; the farther you pedal the harder it gets. The Large Sled is used with the large trucks and tractors. It holds 600 lbs. of free weights.
The Lil’ Buckaroo Rodeo at 3 p.m. will bring together young cowboys and girls competing at the Livestock Show Arena.
The NDRA Rodeo is always a favorite event at the fair. The rodeo will start at 6 p.m.
Good Time Karoake is on tap both Friday and Saturday nights at 8:30 p.m. in the Multi-purpose Building.
General admission is a $5 button which is good all three days. The Demolition Derby is $10 for adults, $5 for ages 6-13 and under 6 free. The NDRA Rodeo is $10 for adults, $5 for 6-13, under 6 free. The Lil’ Buckaroo Rodeo is $2 per person and under 6 free.
