The Sidney area flag football league is in need of volunteer referees for the fast-approaching 2019 season. Flag football has relied entirely on volunteer referees and coaches for nearly twenty years. The league is open for third and fourth grade students from all areas, and calls on community members to ensure the kids are able to play. On Saturday, August 17 starting at 10 a.m. the 6th Annual Matthew R. Brenner Memorial Scholarship Tournament will take place at Sidney Country Club in Sidney, MT. This tournament will be a four-person scramble, $100 per person with a chance to win $10,000. There will be a chipping contest for a new driver, additional hole prizes and a field goal contest after the tourney. The Lone Tree Archers Club of Sidney will be hosting their annual 3-D archery shoot on Saturday, August 17, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday, August 18, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. The event will feature 24 3-D animal targets set up on the archery range, which is located about 8 miles southeast of Sidney. A team of German Wrestlers traveled to Montana this summer for exibition duals and a lot of fun. Each year there is a wrestling cultural exchange with Germany and Montana. The wrestling programs alternate years that the teams will travel to the host county. This year Germany traveled to Montana. Next year a Montana team will travel to Germany. August 3-4, Sidney Sidney hosted State this weekend. It was a busy but fun filled weekend. We want to thank the town for helping to accommodate all the swimming families. A huge thanks to the TBID who helped sponsor the event and allowed us to support such a large group of athletes from 21 towns in the State. The Sidney Tiger Sharks did not disappoint and swam their best. The Sharks went into this weekend in 5th place and brought home the 3rd place trophy. They took 4th place overall in relays. Sidney Tiger Sharks took 63 swimmers and 24 Relays to Glendive on July 13 and 14. The Sharks took 1st overall and had two highpoint winners. Skylar Rodgers, 8 and under, and Morgan Kindopp, 9-10, both got high point for their placing in their age groups. Many of the Sharks took 2nd and 3rd overall for HighPoint. On June 30, 2019 twenty different high school football players from Montana, Wyoming, Texas and Nebraska came to Lambert, Montana to practice and enjoy the events of the 4th. For the past several years, a softball tournament has been held in Sidney to honor two wonderful local women who passed away too soon – Sherry Arnold and Janae Moore.
