The Watford City Oiler's Girls 12 & Under team won the North Dakota state hockey tournament March 9-11 in Devils Lake. The 13 Watford City girls that make up the team have been playing hockey at their best since Nov. 11, 2022. Months of travel, playing on the weekends, and after school from the Rough Rider Center to rinks as far as Devils Lake came to a culmination in February. The Brodie Gorder Memorial Iron Eagle Wrestling Duals & Invitational tournament will be Saturday and Sunday, March 11 and 12 at the Sidney High School. Brodie was a dear child from our community who was killed tragically in an ATV accident at age 8, in 2013. This is the 9th year of the tournament. It began in 2015. This year, for the first time, both the boys’ and girls’ NDAHA State Hockey Tournaments will be held in Watford City the same year. The tournaments start March 2 at noon and go through March 5 at the Rough Rider Center. Watford City has been the host of NDAHA hockey tournaments before, but always just for the boys or the girls. The NDAHA state planning committees and clubs plan which town will host the tournaments at the beginning of the year. Sidney Wrestling Club traveled many hours by bus to compete in Great Falls, Choteau, and Butte, MT. Friday afternoon the team competed in two duals against Great Falls middle schools, where Sidney won both duals by an impressive margin.
