This last weekend the Sidney Tiger Sharks home meet. There were over 290 swimmers in town from all over the Eastern Federation. The pool was hopping with swimmers trying to get their best times, times in new events, and some swimmers just swimming for the first time this season. The Sidney Trap Club was very busy Sunday, June 25 hosting the Sidney Lions Club 6th Annual Family Fun Trap Shoot. Sidney resident and Richland County native 'Smokin' Hank Berry competed at the Williston Basin Speedway Friday, June 23 and will be back Tuesday July 11 with the Dakota Mod Tour, just two of the 35 races he'll compete in this year. Berry found his love for racing as a kid watching his uncle on the race track in Great Falls. He started drag racing in high school at the dragstrip that was in Glendive at the time. The Williston Basin Speedway held the Can-Am Shootout during the Upper Missouri Valley Fair June 23 - 24. On night one there was a $1000 prize for the IMCA Stock Cars and a berth at the B&B All-Star Invitational for the IMCA Super Nationals. Zander Dean, Sidney High School football & wrestling athlete just returned from playing in the Montana Shrine Game. 76th Annual Montana East-West Shrine Game was held in Butte on June 17. "My favorite part of participating in the Shrine game was making new lifelong friends. I really learned a lot in the week of practicing. The Richland County Patriots defeated the Glasgow Reds in two games on Thursday, June 22 with scores of 11-10 and 10-9. They then traveled to the Miles City tournament. On Friday, June 23 they lost their first game 11-13. Saturday morning, they won their morning game with a score of 15-5, but lost in the afternoon with the score of 1-5. Another weekend of some great swimming from the Sidney Tiger Sharks. They had a group of seven and 1/3 swimmers go to Roundup; the 1/3 being they were only able to swim 1 race because of other commitments. The majority of the age group swimmers had fantastic swims both days and cut some great times. The Sharks are rolling through the season with what seems to be very quickly. Harlem is this coming weekend and then Sidney will have its own meet July 8-9....

Former Sidney resident, Cye Franzen, recently was crowned Texas Junior High State Champion Bronc Rider and Rookie of the Year. I caught up with him on the road to Nationals in Perry, GA. For his wins in Texas; Franzen took home a saddle, eight buckles, and several other prizes. The Richland County Patriots played the Laurel Dodgers on Monday, June 12 in Laurel. Due to rain delays the games did not get done until midnight. They lost the first game 3 - 13 and the second game 8 - 18. On Father's Day, June 18, they hosted the Glendive Blue Devils. The first game the Patriots were ahead 8 to 0, but ended up losing 12 - 14. On Sunday, June 25, the Sidney Lions Club will be holding its 6th Annual Family Fun Trap Shoot fundraiser event. Shotgun owners from all over eastern Montana and western North Dakota are welcome to participate. The event will be held at the Sidney Trap Club Range, 12598 Hwy. 16 North. Registration is $35 per person from 8 a.m.-10:30 am. The Tiger Sharks had a meet in Scobey this weekend. They brought 17 swimmers to Scobey to compete. Despite their small numbers the Sharks took home 2nd place. Two Sharks Braya Radke and Beckett Norby took home the high point trophy in their age groups. Many swimmers cut some great time this weekend and the team is really starting to shape up and get their feel for the water back. Next weekend they head to Roundup....

Miles City - Makoshika State Park will host a 3-D Archery Shoot for youth and adults on Saturday, June 17 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. The event will be in the park at the archery range, with concessions provided by the Glendive Lions Club. Shooting fees are $20 for adults 18 and older, $10 for youths 6-17, and kids 5 and under are free. All proceeds will go to support upkeep of the archery range and targets in Makoshika.
