The MHSA Class “A” State Golf Tournament will be taking place in Sidney at the Sidney Country Club on Friday, Oct. 2 and Saturday Oct. 3. The City of Sidney can expect 125-150 golfers and their families, friends and fans to attend this event where both boys and girls state championships will be determined. Monday through Friday from 3:15-5:15 p.m., Sidney HealthWorks will have on site personnel in the SHS Weight Room area. It was a windy and hot day for fishing during Day 2 of the Montana Governor’s Cup Walleye Tournament on Fort Peck Lake. With temperatures over 90 degrees and winds reaching 25 mph things got a little hectic in the late afternoon as teams started to head in to the Fort Peck Marina to check in. The team with the top weight on Day 2 was Sam Lawson and Clay Kittleson of Fort Peck who caught 20.5 pounds of walleye. The Richland County Patriots opened the tournament with a 21-4 victory vs. Fisher Construction. The second game, Richland defeated Jock Stop 10-7 in extra innings (9) in a hard fought game. Richland lost in the undefeated semi-final to VFW 15-4. Wrestling exchange “Team Wurttenberg” of Germany will visit Sidney July 6-8. The team consists of 14 wrestlers ages 16-25 and two coaches. They will be staying with Sidney wrestlers’ families. Sidney is hosting a camp on Tuesday, July 7 for all ages to learn freestyle and Greco from the German team. A dual with Sidney wrestlers will take place on July 7 at 6 pm at the Sidney High School. Rueben Marquez won his opening round bout although he did lose a decision in the quarters. Trace Vielle and Jodan Boyd lost questionable split decisions. Timmy Sellars, Jance Eagle Feathers, Donna Kipp, Martin Manuel & Lee Huston lost their opening round bouts although it was the first time that they competed on the national level. At the AAU wrestling banquet on May 7, Arnie & Lola Hansen were presented the AAU Lifetime Member Award. Son, Ray Hansen started wrestling at age 5 in 1986. Arnie usually hauled Ray and a car full of kids every weekend to AAU meets. His favorite thing to do was harass the referees. When they moved into their current home, it became a popular hangout for the wrestlers after practice with the indoor pool, sauna, and hot tub. Lola also fed them lots of lasagna.
