  • Recommendation Made To Change Basketball Districts For Eastern C

    The current district structure for Eastern C divisional basketball may change as soon as the 2017-2018 school year. “There won’t be any changes for next [school] year,” Kara Triplett, Eastern C president, said. During a divisional meeting May 23, the division voted to make a recommendation to the Montana High School Association regarding the 2017-2018 school year.     For the first time in the cooperative's history, the R&L Fusion captured the Eastern C divisional championship in boys track. The Fusion won the meet in Sidney Thursday with 119 points. Fairview placed second with 89 and Savage earned third with 85 points. "The kids worked hard," Fusion Coach Larry Sommerfeld said of the title.     Area golfers competed at the Class C state meet held last Tuesday and Wednesday. Joey Bawden of Culbertson shot a 182 for 13th place. Brayden Olson shot a 189 for 21st place. Eric Hendrickson had a 199 for 33rd place. Chase Kilzer had a 216 for 53rd place. Fairview’s Josh Johnson shot a 225 and Adam Elletson shot a 237. John Helmuth of Richey-Lambert finished with a 241.     The Watford City girls golf team had a full week of competitions this past week. Six girls traveled to Mohall on Tuesday for a tournament. With three regular varsity players out of the line-up due to other extra-curricular activities that prevented them from attending, the Wolves were a little short-handed, but handled the situation very well.     Saturday, June 18, will mark the day of Sherry and Janae’s Annual Softball Tournament and will be held at South Meadow Softball Complex in Sidney. This tournament is open to all ages and prizes will be awarded throughout the day. The entry fee is $100/team with $50 due at the time of sign up.     Sidney's boys earned second place and the Sidney girls placed seventh in the team standings at the Super Divisional Track Meet held in Laurel during the weekend. The Eagles scored 81 points for second in the boys standings. Belgrade earned the title with 95 points while Laurel was third with 68. In the girls division, Laurel won with 107 points followed by Lewistown with 71 and Livingston with 66.5 points. Sidney scored 34.5 points.     The Sidney softball team had its season ended at the Eastern A divisional tournament held in Billings. The Eagles lost a heartbreaker against Billings Central in the first round and then fell by an 8-1 margin to Miles City. In the opening round, the Eagles scored three runs in the third and fourth innings each before losing by an 8-7 margin. With Central ahead 2-0, Sidney went ahead in the bottom of the third as Madison Thiessen connected for a two-run homer.     For all intents and purposes, Sidney Gymnastics had the 2015-2016 Montana “debut” of its competition team at the State Gymnastics Championships held in Kalispell, MT on March 19th and 20th. During the general season, SGC competes primarily in North Dakota because the Montana gyms are all far away. But to get their routines in front of the Montana judges before the State Meet, SGC usually competes in Billings and Bozeman.     The 2015-2016 Richland Ranger Peewees competed at the North Dakota Peewee B Gold State Tournament in Rugby, ND March 4th – 6th, 2016.
