Sidney Gymnastics Club started the New Year off with a bang by bringing home two third place trophies from the Julie Ziegler Memorial Gymnastics Meet in Bismarck, ND on Saturday the fifteenth. Present and past players and fans gathered on Friday to honor Dave Hansen and Arden Berg for their committment to the development of the hockey program in Watford City. SHS Hosted their meet January 8, 2017. Fifteen schools from Eastern Montana showed up to compete in 14 different events. Dummy Team Roping returns to the VFW in Sidney on Saturday, January 28, with proceeds to benefit the Neal Hermanson 2017 Memorial Ranch Rodeo and Ranch Horse Competition. Dave Hansen Arena & Arden Berg Community Rink Naming Ceremony will start on ice at 7 pm at the Rough Rider Center hockey rink in Watford City. All former players, current players and former Oiler and current Oiler families and friends are asked to wear old jerseys or Oiler colors/apparel and join Arden and Dave on the ice for this portion. The Sidney Wrestling Club took 22 wrestlers to the AAU Winter Nationals in Omaha, Nebraska under coach Shane Gorder. The team did extremely well and placed 7th out of 172 teams. This tournament is an AAU National competition and is called the Battle for the Belt. Sidney’s Aden Graves came home a national champion and the winner of the Winter Nationals Belt. The Richland Rangers Squirts, coached by Mike Fink, hosted a tournament this weekend at the arena. Saturday they won all three of their seeding games to place them into 1st going into the 4 team single elimination tournament on Sunday. They were victorious beating out Watford City Black 4-1. Sidney Gymnastics Club ventured across the border into North Dakota for their first competition of the 2016-2017 competitive season; to the "Milo Dullum Qualifier" held in the high school gym in Dickinson, ND. Being the first competition of the season, Coaches Pat & Jan McWilliams didn't know how well the SGC gymnasts would stack up against competitors from North Dakota and Montana. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2016 the SHS Speech, Drama & Debate team travelled to Plentywood Montana to compete against 14 schools, the entire team advanced to finals. The Sidney Gymnastics Club is bursting at the seams with approximately 200 gymnasts from Sidney, Fairview, Glendive, Lambert, Savage, Crane, Culbertson and Williston who train at the facility on a weekly basis. The Club is working to raise funds for a 1200 sq. ft. expansion which will allow for more space for each class, and better schedules, creating opportunities for more children to participate and more convenient times for parents. The Sidney Middle School Wrestlers had a very successful and busy weekend. Friday afternoon November 18, they traveled to Baker for an invitational. Saturday November 19 the wrestlers came home to host their own tournament here in Sidney and won the tournament with 273 points. Placing second was Miles City with 210.5, Glasgow was 3rd with 178.
