The Fairview Community Foundation is having a streetball tourney, Wednesday, July 12-Friday, July 14 in conjunction with Fairview Old Timers Festival at Sharbono Park. This event is open to sixth graders through adults. Teams need to be registered by June 24 in order to set up the bracket. The 6th softball tournament to honor the lives of Sherry Arnold and Janae Moore will be held on Saturday, June 17th, at the South Meadow Softball Complex in Sidney. The first tournament was held in 2012 to celebrate the life of Sherry Arnold, a long-time softball player and coach. In 2014, the name of the tournament was changed to include Janae Moore, a young Sidney resident and avid softball player. The Sidney High School boys track team came home champions from the Montana State Class A track meet held in Laurel May 26 & 27. The boys were escorted through town Sunday morning by the fire truck, ambulance and police. The last time the Sidney boys brought home a state championship was in 1959. The last time an Eastern A team won was in 2005 when Colstrip won. The Richey/Lambert Fusion boys track team also placed 3rd in Class C. With more than thirty years on the books, and over 400 match wins and eight state titles, longtime Sidney Eagles wrestling coach Guy Melby was recognized as the AAU Outstanding Contributor in early May. The Outstanding Contributor award is given to a coach, officer or committee member engaged in the activities of the AAU, the Amateur Athletic Union. The Sidney Spurs 8th Grade Traveling Team recently concluded their 2017 Traveling Basketball season. They participated in five (5) tournaments from the middle of March to the middle of April, winning two (2) tournaments and placing in two (2) others. Des Moines, IA, March 30-April 3 Sixteen Sidney Eagle wrestlers qualified for Team Montana and wrestled in the AAU National Duals this past weekend. This is the most wrestlers to ever make it at a time since its beginning, 17 years ago. There were three middle school teams and three ninth and tenth grade teams. Each individual had to qualify in Great Falls at the Montana State Folk Style Tournament. There were 110 wrestlers from across Montana that participated. Sidney Tendo had one participant at the USA Taekwondo State Qualifier in Missoula, Montana this weekend. Caleb Baxter was uncontested in the cadet male blue belt welterweight division. Qualifying in both Poomse (forms) and Gyroogi (sparring), Caleb has earned the right to compete at nationals and represent Montana in both.
