The Ag Department at Williston State College is getting ready for the 4th annual Carcass Challenge. Students in the program take calves donated from area livestock producers to Hovde Feedlot in Arnegard, feed them the same rations, and weigh and process them monthly and study the data. Farmers and landowners have an additional 18 calendar days to submit their annual report for acreage to their local FSA county office with the deadline extended from Monday, July 15, 2013, to Friday, August 2, 2013. Late spring storms and heavy rains throughout the planting season caused an estimated 4.4 million acres of cropland to go unplanted this year, based on an early estimate by USDA Farm Service Agency’s North Dakota State Office.
