    Sidney Sugars agricultural manager Duane Peters is very pleased with how the sugar beet season is starting out. “We’re having a good spring right now, which hopefully will lead to a very good harvest.” In the first year of a three-year contract, 33,500 acres have been contracted, 25,527 of which were planted as of May 2. The 7,000 acres, which were planted early, are now emerging.     During the top ten beet grower dinner, Nollmeyer Farms was recognized as the top grower in the 50-312 acres category. Del and Kim Nollmeyer, who farm north of Savage, averaged 40.07 ton per acre, 19.25 percent sugar, which resulted in a 35.28 rating on a 263-acre crop. Del Nollmeyer grew up farming, started out by renting farmland from his father when he was still in high school.     This year Haidle Farms, owned by Ryan Haidle, received the 20/20 award for Top 10 Beet Growers. The 20/20 reward is given to beet farmers that produce 20 Tons Per Acre(TPA) of beets with a 20+% sugar outage. Haidle Farms managed to produce 31.28 TPA with 20.08% sugar yield on 489 acres.     Dee Ann Sifuentes of Sidney Sugars has been an employee since September of 1977. When Sifuentes first started at the factory, she began at the beet end of things.     For the second year in a row, Sidney Sugars completed a record harvest, averaging 32.3 tons per acre and 18.73 sugar for the 2015 season. The crop was visually deceiving other than in the Savage area where they got an early start and no hail. "Other areas surprised us," agricultural manager Russ Fullmer said.
