I guess the most appropriate word to use for the 2014 harvest in Richland County is interesting. Not necessarily bad, not necessarily good, just interesting. When the barley harvest started in July, it looked like everything was going to be good and maybe even terrific. The winter wheat that actually made it through the winter was looking good and for the most part the barley could have been classified as phenomenal. I remember visiting fields to certify them for the noxious weed seed free...

"Altogether, we collected 44,118 pounds of e-waste this year through our May and September events. That's a lot of potentially hazardous waste that is NOT...

The recent heavy rains, and a breakdown temporarily stopped the critical rocking process of the Intake diversion dam by Lower Yellowstone Irrigation. The 2012 rocking was extensive after the flooding of 2011. This year, the ice jams...

For many people, Thursday's Co-Op Day at the Fair entails a momentary stop at the sponsor tent for a complimentary root beer float- and an equally hasty return to other Fair-afternoon happenings. However, this day has more behind it than simply a free cooldown for fairgoers. The event was set in motion in 2000 by Kelly Knaff of the Lower Yellowstone Rural Electric Association, one of the seven original co-ops which contributed to the day. Richland Farm Mutual joined in the fun in 2008 and...

The opening lyrics to the popular song “Summertime,” - or most of them anyway - aptly highlight a special summer BrownBagger planned at the USDA-ARS Northern Plains Agricultural Research Lab this coming Thursday, July 17th. While the cotton may not be high, the fish ARE jumping in the nearby Missouri and Yellowstone rivers, where many are the focus of a new study looking at changing “food webs” and their impacts on native fish species, such as pallid and shovelnose sturgeon.
