The McKenzie County Ambulance Service has remained strong through the oil boom, despite a 328% increase in the number of calls. At the height of the oil boom, in 2014, the Service responded to about 1200 calls total. For comparison, ten years ago, the Service responded to 280 calls per year. The McKenzie County Ambulance Service employs 8 licensed paramedics, and has a volunteer staff of 18 Emergency Medical Technicians and 10 drivers that provide emergency health care and advanced life support for the people of Watford City and some of the surrounding area. In recent years, the Service has been operating on a budget deficit, with only 51% of billed services being paid by consumers or insurance. In 1984, a young lady embarked on a journey to bring gymnastics to the tiny town of Watford City ND. The club started as a parent run organization and was called the twisters back then.
