Canisters at the Richland County landfill have been closed temporarily due to the dumping of about 30 barrels of oil over two weekends. County Commissioners said the canisters will reopen on Thursday, November 9th but Commissioner Loren Young said,“If the abuse starts up again, we will consider closing them again.” The county has seen an uptick in dumping at sites in Lambert and Savage as well as at the landfill. The purpose of these trials is to identify what sugar beet seed variety proves to be most successful in this area. Each seed variety is used in different locations to determine how they perform under various environments, soils, and management. Dryland farmers Kelly and Suzie Bergstedt live on the century-old Bergstedt family homestead, a short jaunt down the lane road from Kelly's parents, Cliff and Linda. The farm "started as probably just a few acres, and now we farm about 3000 acres," Kelly explained. The Sidney High School boys track team came home champions from the Montana State Class A track meet held in Laurel May 26 & 27. The boys were escorted through town Sunday morning by the fire truck, ambulance and police. The last time the Sidney boys brought home a state championship was in 1959. The Dan Miller Memorial Ride will take place June 10. Sign up will begin at 9 am at The Waterhole #3. We plan to begin the ride by 10 am. This will be a poker run for those wishing to participate. First stop will be the Cattle-Ac in Sidney, followed by Burns Creek Inn in Savage, the CQ Bar in Lambert, the Stagecoach in Culbertson and Smokies in Bainville.
