For the first time, Sidney Sugars installed temperature probes in some of their beet piles to improve monitoring. Sidney Sugars agriculturalist James Johnson spent 10 days at American Crystal headquarters in Moorhead, MN where the equipment was built, learning how to install and utilize it to maximize benefits. The service is twelve years old and has grown and changed a lot. The question is whether the existing plan still works or whether there are additional services that residents would utilize. It has been a rocky harvest with rain, snow and frost slowing progress on what should have been an excellent tonnage crop. However, good weather has provided good digging recently and beet harvest is coming to a close with Savage and Pleasantview completed and the other stations projected to be done by the end of this week. Savage brothers Chase and Tanner Hagler closed out their hunting season by landing a large buck each within the first four days of hunting season.
