However, record releases from Garrison and Oahe dams resulted in substantial losses of smelt from the reservoirs during the later stages of summer. Dave Fryda, Missouri River System supervisor for the North Dakota Game and Fish Department, said entrainment rates with the record flows were very high and reduced the smelt population in both reservoirs....

    Apr 25, 2012

This year all paddlefish regulations were consolidated into one location in the 2012 fishing regulations. Fisheries managers in FWP's Regions 6 and 7 say paddlefish reproduction has been poor or absent in recent years due to a variety of environmental factors. Combine these factors with increased fishing pressure on adult paddlefish, and conservative management is essential. The one exception is the Missouri River above Fort Peck...

  • Oil Dollars Benefit Some Of Those In Agriculture

    Lois Kerr|Mar 7, 2012

Every issue has its positives and negatives. For those farmers without mineral rights, farming only gets more and more difficult as input costs soar and the available land becomes increasingly more expensive to buy or to rent. Jaimee Green|Jan 11, 2012

For one local woman the inspiration to take a still photograph is derived from everywhere and at times, seemingly from nowhere. It can be conjured up from the way the light hits an old abandoned barn or from the way frost gathers on a stumpy head of echinacea. Capturing these images is a talent and passion Kitty Kolden,...

  • Cell Phone Usage While Driving

    Dec 21, 2011

Inspired by recent deadly crashes — including one in which a teenager sent or received 11 text messages in 11 minutes before an accident — the recommendation would apply even to hands-free devices, a much stricter rule than any current state law.
