The McKenzie County Ambulance Service has remained strong through the oil boom, despite a 328% increase in the number of calls. At the height of the oil boom, in 2014, the Service responded to about 1200 calls total. For comparison, ten years ago, the Service responded to 280 calls per year. On Tuesday, July 25th there will be a “Toys for Tikes” fundraiser from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Watford City Tourist Park. There will be a free will donation supper served at the event along with live music performed by local musicians. Attendants are encouraged to bring an unwrapped toy or gift for children from the ages of six months to 17 years old. Jean Ekern and her siblings were the 2016 Old Settler's Day Honorees in Alexander ND. She joined 15 relatives to lead the parade and eat barbequed beef. She had planned for two years to revisit her childhood home, see the oil wells, and tour Roosevelt National Park.
