  • USDA ARS Focus Group Will Meet Nov. 21

    Tim Fine|Nov 16, 2016

One of the bonuses of my job (at least it’s usually a bonus) is that, because of the position, I get asked (sometimes told) to be a part of various groups. Generally speaking these groups have an agricultural focus and are looking for input. One such group that I am happy to say that I am a part of is the USDA ARS’ focus group. There are several duties that this group performs but the primary tasks are to educate the public in regards to what research is being conducted at the ARS, go to bat for them if asked to do so, and provide the res...

  • Creating the country we want takes more than voting

    Karli Johnson|Nov 16, 2016

I’m a millennial woman. I voted for Donald Trump and I am not sorry. I did not vote for him because he’s a man; because he’s inspiring me or because I agree with everything he says. I voted for him because I thought we would have more economic opportunities with Donald Trump than Hillary Clinton. I agree with many of you that his rhetoric is offensive. The stories of how some of this rhetoric is perpetuated by his followers make my heart sad. Just because I voted for Donald Trump doesn’t mean that I agree or support any sort of behavio...

  • Continuous Holiday Carousel

    Lois Stephens|Nov 16, 2016

Holiday seasons nowadays tend to blend together for one continuous shopping spree, starting in late September when merchants feel obligated to start pushing Halloween, and lasting right through Easter the following spring. When I was a kid, admittedly quite some time ago, this behavior on the part of shopkeepers didn’t exist and we as consumers didn’t demand it. Stores began stocking shelves with Halloween treats and costumes the first or second week of October. We didn’t even begin thinking about what we might want to wear when we went out t...
