The Canadian Snowbirds thrilled a huge audience with their precision aerial performance Wednesday evening at the Sidney-Richland airport. The previous day, the team based out of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan was sanctioned by the FAA, allowing the Snowbirds to fly in the US, and treating anyone watching to a great show. Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks officials said today that aquatic invasive species inspection stations and roving inspection crews are in operation at key border crossing sites, along major highways and on heavily used water bodies. By law boaters must stop at AIS watercraft inspection stations for a brief interview and inspection. Already this month, two boats stopped at inspection stations were found to be fouled by zebra mussels, and another contaminated boat was found by an alert private citizen. Following a sewer line break, Healthworks fitness center in Sidney will be closed until further notice. Although there was not much damage to many machines or equipment, repairs to the sewer line will need to be made before they can reopen. As I write this column (May 21) the North Dakota Agricultural Weather Network reports there have been approximately 200 accumulated insect degree days in the Williston and Stanley area. This data has some implications as to when we can expect adult alfalfa weevil emergence which is around 250-300 degree days. The Savage Senior Citizen organization began the spring of 1973. In the beginning the group met at various churches with 10 to 14 members. In 1976, the new firehall was completed with room to accomodate the senior citizens. In 1979, the organization purchased the Madsen Hardware building.
