To honor lives lost to COVID-19, an area artist created a plan to support both artists and families who lost a loved one to the disease. Over 100 people in the MonDak area have died from COVID-19 related complications and Daphne Clark saw a need to remember each of those community members with a portrait, creating “The North Dakota COVID Portrait” Project. The Sidney Area Dollars for Scholars program has been assisting graduates of Sidney High School with scholarships since its inception in 1991. The key organizer of this chapter was Paul Johnson. Our chapter has awarded scholarships to 1,001 students totaling $607,150. In 1992, student scholarship amounts were $300. Through the generous support of community members leaving endowment gifts, as well as yearly phonathon donations, the scholarship amounts have grown to average over $1,300.
