The annual 4-H Communications Day was held on April 18, at Pella Lutheran Church. Speech and Demonstration Day is a local 4-H event, where 4-H members get to practice public speaking skills that build self-confidence and self-esteem in these young people. This year 26 4-H youth competed in this event and were evaluated by 11 community judges. This year, three Cloverbuds, 4-H members aged 6-8, presented a piece of their choice. This last July 4th Richland County 4-H members competed in the state 4-H Livestock Judging Contest at Montana 4-H Congress held in Bozeman on the Montana State University campus. The four members were Jori Horsburgh, Garrett Larson, Landry Larson and Marett Schieber. The team competed against teams from all over the state of Montana. The team placed second in the state. Ali Merritt, a nine year member of the Forever Buds 4-H club, was awarded the highest honor a Montana 4-H member can receive for 4-H project work; a state award. Montana State University is working on a computerized Cognitive Behavior Therapy program called Thrive. This program is designed to help adults learn positive coping strategies and improve their every-mood. So far, the program has been shown to positively impact adult Montanans by reducing depression and anxiety symptoms. There will be a community meeting on November 8, 2018 starting at 5:30.
