    On Aug. 13, the Richland County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding an industrial accident that had occurred at Border Steel located SE of Sidney. Emergency responders arrived on scene and determined that an employee had been inadvertently run over by a trailer being towed by a commercial truck. The employee, James Dean McRae, 61, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. This matter is still under investigation.   • Possible Human Remains Found on Yellowstone River South of Sidney

    On the evening of Aug. 13, 2023 at approximately 8:30 p.m., a resident reported to the Richland County Sheriff’s Office that they had been engaging in recreational activities on the Yellowstone River south of Sidney during which time they came upon possible human skeletal bones. They recovered bones from the site and turned them over to the Sheriff’s Office.     On June 8 at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Richland County Sheriff Office received information that Williams County North Dakota Sheriff’s Office was involved in a high-speed pursuit of vehicle occupied by two individuals.     Since becoming sheriff and even before that Richland County Sheriff John Dynneson has been looking at ways to reduce recidivism in Richland County. Working with local resources to have AA and NA meetings in the jail has been helpful but has not assisted in keeping recidivism numbers down. In the fall of 2021 Sheriff Dynneson reached out to Prairie Hills Recovery Center to discuss some treatment options that could be done in the jail.     The Richland County Detention Center recently acquired a high security body scanning system. The system is one of many located in Detention Centers across the State of Montana and across the nation. This scanner is built in the USA and is compliant with FDA standards for security screenings.
