    Sawyer Flynn, son of Scott and Dona Flynn of Fairview, received the 2013 Youth Award from the State Historical Society of North Dakota. He was nominated for the volunteer work he does at the Fort Buford State Historic Site and the Missouri-Yellowstone Confluence Interpretive Center by Kerry Finsaas.     Warren Froelich retired from serving the public as Williams County Extension agent the end of August. He started his career June 5, 1967 as a trainee in Jamestown, spent several years in various locations in North Dakota, and ended up in Williston in March of 1981.   • Sugar Beet Harvest Begins, Please Drive Safely

    The annual sugar beet harvest began this next week beginning with Culbertson, Savage and the factory yard on Monday, September 30; Sugar Valley and Pleasantview on Tuesday, October 1 and Powder River on October 2. The factory started processing beets on October 1. According to Russ Fullmer, Sidney Sugars agricultural manager, if the weather is still too warm, there will be a controlled harvest to begin with, then it will be “full bore, as quickly as we can”.     Dr. Jacobs of the Interlaken Centre, Waconia, MN was at Williston Saddlery mid August treating a Great Dane and a barrel racing horse using the ancient practice of acupuncture. The Interlaken Centre is probably the oldest veterinary practice devoted solely to acupuncture according to Dr. Jacobs. It was opened in 1983 by Dr. Ralph Johnson, a pioneer in animal acupuncture.     Sidney Sugars Agricultural Manager Russ Fullmer was much more optimistic about this year’s sugarbeet crop last week than he had been. Sunshine and warmer temperatures have the beet fields looking much healthier. “Even the little ones are growing now,” Fullmer said. Even though the rains have been wonderful, the crop needs heat.
