    On February 5, 2015 Radio Shack filed Chapter 11 restructuring bankruptcy. The bankruptcy affects the approximately 4000 company stores owned in the US. The more than 1,000 dealer franchise stores in 25 countries are not affected. ElectricLand is a franchise store, independently owned and operated by Raleigh and Deb Peck, and therefore is NOT affected by the bankruptcy.     Lower Yellowstone Irrigation District held its annual meeting Friday, February 13 at the Moose Lodge in Sidney with board of control chairman Richard Cayko as emcee. It was announced that Tony Barone is a new member of the board of control, replacing Bud Groskinsky who retired.     Petitions signed by 270 individuals were presented to the Fairview school board last Tuesday night, asking for the reinstatement of principal Reuben Moreno. On September 10, Moreno was placed on paid administrative leave by superintendent Kloker citing insubordination. Following disagreements with the head football coach, Moreno had given a verbal resignation as assistant football coach on September 5.     The 2014 sugar beet crop is shaping up to be a good one according to Sidney Sugars agricultural manager Russ Fullmer. The latest root samples indicated big tonnage. “They were pretty good,” Fullmer said. “The tons will be there.” The earlier light frosts should help with sugar content while not affecting growth. Fullmer said there are more yellow fields this year than in the past few years, indicating that the beets are making sugar.     The recent heavy rains, and a breakdown temporarily stopped the critical rocking process of the Intake diversion dam by Lower Yellowstone Irrigation. By August 14,the river level over the dam was approximately 2.9 feet and rising due to both the rocking and the rain. In 2012, the last year when rocking was permitted, 15,000 cubic yards of sandstone boulders were used to bring the height up to 2.5' above the dam.     The critical rocking process of the Intake diversion dam by Lower Yellowstone Irrigation began August 7 and should be completed in about a week. In 2012, the last year when rocking was permitted, 1500 cubic yards of sandstone boulders were used to bring the height up to 2.5' above the dam. The 2012 rocking was extensive after the flooding of 2011. This year, the ice jams removed all the rock from the top of the dam.     Record crowds of supporters of the Lower Yellowstone Irrigation Project (LYIP) attended the public meetings in Glendive and Sidney hosted by the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Bureau of Reclamation (BOR) two weeks ago. Both venues were changed from cafeterias to gymnasiums to accommodate the 500 plus people in Glendive and 400 plus in Sidney.     Oil and water don't mix. The full extent of the March 11 oil spill at Private Frazier Well site north of Fairview remains to be seen. The Zavanna LLC well site is on land owned by Cayko Farms.
